Turkey Hunting Youth Season Sleeping Tactics…RJ & Ralph

Yes, this turkey hunting season has definitely been a bit different than the past here at home camp. We saw colder temps than normal and this made for some very chilly morning hunts so far. RJ was up first with one of his last few home state youth turkey hunting seasons left for him. He is dwindling down to being too old soon for youth season, but he is staying very consistent in his morning hunting technique. Ever since he has hunted with us, his morning hunting technique has been to fall asleep in the blind… At least it keeps him quiet and still.

Between school, track, working out, and making time for the girlfriend, he still found a morning to get up and pack all his gear into his Ameristep ground blind, and he and I had shared a great morning in the turkey woods. We had 10+ toms strutting behind us, so we closed up the front of the Supernatural blind and tried opening the backside windows…

and here is a tip to remember… If you think birds might come from the back of you take off the Velcro windows before the hunt starts. We quickly found out that turkeys don’t like Velcro. LOL! But even with our mistakes, we almost had RJ let his Browning A-5 jelly head one. He and I laughed and we’ll remember this morning youth season for sure.
